Transportation
  • Free bus transportation is provided to and from Camp ANCHOR. Only participants, volunteers, and assigned staff are eligible to utilize said transportation.
  • Parents must bring their child to the designated bus stop prior to expected departing time and must be prompt in meeting returning bus.
  • Parents who wish to have their child walk to and from their respective bus stop, must sign a "permission to walk" form. This form must have previously been submitted to the ANCHOR Office.
  • Parents who plan to have their child take a one way trip to camp and then plan to pick him/her up at Camp ANCHOR in the P.M. must inform the bus supervisor of this upon boarding the bus in the A.M
  • If a camper is brought to camp by parent and said camper is to be bussed home, this must be brought to the attention of the ANCHOR office.
  • If the bus is late, allow 15 minutes before leaving the bus stop in order to inquire about it. (Occasionally busses may be dispatched a little late from camp due to program extension.) If the bus is excessively late, call this bus company directly and speak to the dispatcher. Do not call the ANCHOR Office.
Camp Program
  • ANCHOR's Junior Camp, Senior Camp, and Young Adults have been scheduled for a busy and varied program of summer fun. Diverse activities are adapted to accommodate the age and ability of the individual camper and the group.
  • Sports activities include basketball, softball, volleyball, bowling, court games, field hockey, and physical fitness.
  • Group singing, rhythm band, country dancing, musical games, body movement, and musical shows are featured as part of the dance program.
  • Arts and Crafts, ceramics, home economics, movies, and clubs are also enjoyed regularly by ANCHOR campers.
  • Swim instruction and recreational pool swimming are integral parts of the camp program. Ocean bathing and sand play also play important roles in the weekly schedule.
  • Participants partake in a field trip program which partially depends on monies received as contributions from parents to the ANCHOR Program Fund, Inc.
  • Special events highlight the camp season. These include live shows, bands, puppet theatres, carnivals, field day, barbecues, swim festival, etc.
Removal of a Participant from Program
  • If your child is not going to attend Camp ANCHOR this summer, please contact the ANCHOR office immediately. If we are notified we can accommodate another child from our waiting list.
  • The Department of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to discontinue any camper's participation in the program should the camper prove to be incapable of functioning in the camp or considered to be a severe problem, possibly jeopardizing other campers in his or her group.
Rainy Day Program
  • In the event of inclement weather, all groups are assigned to various indoor locations (schools, bowling alleys, theaters, malls).
  • If the camp needs to be postponed due to severe weather please listen to the following sources for information: WHLI 740 & 1100 AM, WMJC 94.3 FM, WALK 97.5 FM, WKJY 98.3 FM, WBAB 102.3 FM, B-103 103.1 FM, News 12 - You may also call the bus company.
Field Trip Participation
  • When a field trip is scheduled for your child's group, and it is your wish that he or she not participate in this program, you must keep your child home on that particular day.
Medication
  • If camper requires medication during the camp day, parents must complete the Medication Authorization Statement. These forms and the medication must be returned to the ANCHOR office prior to the start of camp.
  • If our ANCHOR Nurse is to administer medication to your child, please send in a supply for the entire camp season or at least enough for the first three weeks and then a sufficient quantity for the remaining three weeks.
  • Medications must be in original prescription bottles or containers; labled with your child's name, medication name, and Group Leader's name.
  • Medications are safeguarded by our nurse and administered according to your doctor's instructions.
Emergencies
  • In the event of an emergency regarding a camper, parents will be notified at once. If parents cannot be reached, then the person listed as the "emergency contact" will be notified. This person should be available and able to pick up the camper.
  • Should a camper become ill and it is recommended that he or she be sent home, parents will be responsible for picking up the camper.
Identification Badges
  • All campers are required to wear the identification badge provided at all times. This badge indicates camper's name, Group Leader, bus route and stop.
  • If this badge is lost or mutilated, notify the Bus Supervisor and a new one will be issued.
Clothing
  • Camp attire should be comfortable and in keeping with weather conditions. The camp shirt must be worn at all times. A hat should be worn on the first few days of camp to avoid over exposure to the sun.
  • The following items should be brought to camp daily in a tote bag: Large towel, bathing suit, sweat shirt, and an extra change of underclothes (epecially for younger children).
  • On rainy or chilly days, please provide camper with appropriate clothing to wear.
  • Campers should utilize an ANCHOR tote bag, or similar bag for carrying clothing.
  • All clothing and property brought or worn to camp MUST BE LABELED WITH THE CAMPER'S NAME.
Lunch
  • A good substantial lunch must be provided, along with a suitable beverage.
  • All food containers, soda containers, etc. must be unbreakable.
  • Sodas, ice tea, and juices are available for purchase at the "ANCHOR Soda Shack" for 60¢. Milk may also be purchased for 25¢. Small bags of pretzels, chips, etc. are also available for purchase.
Sunscreen Lotion and Insect Repellants
  • In order to avoid sunburn and insect bites, parents should apply a sunscreen lotion and insect repellant to child before camp. The staff, unless supplied with prior written permission, is not permitted to do so. These lotions must be sent with camper daily.
New York State License
  • Camp ANCHOR is required to be licensed by the New York Department of Health. It must meet all licensing criteria set forth by that department and is subject to inspection by that agency at anytime.
  • Camp ANCHOR's Safety Plan and Inspection Reports are on file with the Nassau County Department of Health, 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, New York, 11501.
Anchor Program Fund
  • Monies to cover field trip costs and admission, parties, and other special events are provided by your contributions to the ANCHOR PROGRAM FUND, INC.
